Observe the following diagram. Be familiar with the positions of the neurons. Which enter the front (ventral) of the vertebra which leave the back (dorsal)? What direction does nerve impulse travel?
Lets look at where we are:
The brain and spinal cord fall under the central nervous system (you knew that), the motor and sensory neurons fall under the somatic nerves which falls under the peripheral nervous system. Lets look at the autonomic nerves.

The peripheral nervous system is composed of somatic (voluntary) nerves which are your sensory and motor and your autonomic (involuntary nerves) which is your sympathetic and parasympathetic. You need to understand the difference between the sympathetic and parasympathetic.
Make sure you know how your body reacts to a stressful situation. Be able to give examples. Use table 1 on page 435 in your textbook as a summary.
